~YouTube~

I'm familiar with YouTube and all, but I wasnt too interested in it until earlier this year. A friend of mine shoed me a video for an older R&B song that someone had uploaded. Stats say that older people are using YouTube more than the younger generations. It's believable, but I still know alot of kids that are on that site as well as others. Over the years it was no surprise that women and highschool kids are most likely to frequent these sites. All of my female relatives are on either Myspace, Facebook or some other SNS.
I think YouTube is more of an entertainment site though because some of the sites promote music or movies. Really, a variety of different things. In my class last semester we used YouTube as a source to watch a video where this kid from HS was reciting (ever-so-dramatically lol) a famous poem. I had no idea (before that class) to ever look for something educational. I wish I could remeber the poem. I guess you can say that YouTube has a little something for everyone.

I know I was surprised to see that more adults use Youtube than the younger generation. I personally know more people who are younger than older who use it ~ unless the older individuals are just keeping quiet about their Youtube usage. Maybe they are embarrassed.

Ya, I know that, for instance, my dad uses stuff like you tube at work a lot because he has a lot of free time on his hands. He is self employed and his business basically runs itself. I think a lot of people from the baby boomer generation are heavily into this stuff because they are nearing retirement age and things are slowing down at work for them.

Before, I would only go to YouTube if someone send me a specific link to something. But one semester, my prof, insisting that we get our money's worth out of our technology fees, used YouTube regularly in class to play video clips relating to our subject matter. That made me realize that there is so much there worth looking at. Kind of like that old saying "One man's trash is another man's treasure."

My kids go to youtube to see music videos and see clips their friends uploaded. I go there when I have a few minutes to waste and just want to be entertained. I never know what I am going to find.

I have seen puppet shows, tv episodes, stupid tricks, music videos, how-to-demonstrations and more. One time I even watched some guy make an entire picture using McDonald's ketchup packets as the medium and the french fries as the applicator! A total waste of my time, but fun to watch.

Yeah Youtube can be surprisingly educational. I've seen quite a few documentaries and religious videos/sermons uploaded.

There are even various "how-to" videos uploaded.

Youtube is an excellent un-tapped well of useful information. I think those invovled in education may be loathe to use it due to the tempation to drift away and start browsing for entertainment.
